The bent shape of water is also predicted by the VSEPR approach, with two bonding groups and two nonbonding groups around the oxygen. This gives an overall tetrahedral geometry for the electron groups, but a bent geometry for the molecule. Once again the hybridization for this geometry is sp3; the two unshared electron pairs occupy two of the orbitals.
