Ammonia (Hydrogen Nitride) – NH3

Important in food production and biosynthesis

Ammonia is trigonal pyramidal in shape with H-N-H bond angles of ~109.5°.  The VSEPR explanation for this shape is that there are four electron groups around the nitrogen - three bonding groups and one nonbonding pair group.  In terms of hybridization, the geometry is explained by sp3 hybridized orbitals, with the unshared pair occupying one of the orbitals.
